Human languages display extremely complex and abstract properties. Studies in the languages of the world point to this fact and make us question how 3-year-old children are able to understand and produce a large number of sentences in the language they are acquiring.

At the age of 5, almost all of the structures of a language have already been acquired. This feat is accomplished effortlessly by all children worldwide. At the same age children are producing complex sentences, they often don't know how to tie their shoelaces or ride a tricycle. The big question that language acquisition researchers ask is: how is it possible?

In our lab, we conduct research on different linguistic phenomena, looking for patterns and behaviors that bring more clues about children's language development.
